My favorite subject in school has always been mathematics. Since I was younger math and reading were always what I was good at. Reading is fun, but I just hate being forced by teachers to read a book they choose for a grade. Don't get me wrong, I love to read, but it's mostly for myself. I always found History and Science to be so difficult. Fun Fact: According to my Zodiac sign, I'm supposed to be great at History and Reading and suck at math. I think I'm good in reading, but History is definitely not my best suit. I've been told by many people that I'm great at math. I've even tutored some of my friends with homework and assignments relating to math.
When I was younger, maybe in first grade, I took a test on how to tell time on a clock. I didn't understand it. Long story short, I got a zero on it. Don't worry though, it wasn't an actual test and the teacher explained to me afterwards how to do it. I then got good at it. Looking at numbers has always been in a way fun to me. When I was younger, I used to get excited to do my math homework, being the nerd that I am. Now, I don't get as excited for homework, but I do like going to my math class.
In middle school I was offered to take Algebra, a ninth grade class. This was an opportunity to receive high school credit, and I took it. The teacher wasn't the nicest, but she wasn't mean either. She wouldn't explain as much as I would like, but I taught myself the material and got through it. In ninth grade, I took Geometry. I wasn't very good at geometry, because I had many absences my ninth grade year. I had a church pilgrimage and got sick often, it wasn't the best school year for me. I had trouble catching up very often, but I still managed to pass the class and final exam, with some help from my teacher and classmates. That year, by some miracle, I got offered to take Fast Track.
Fast Track was having Algebra II everyday, instead of every other day, like everyone has, and completing it in one semester. This would mean, I will get to take Pre-AP Calculus my second semester, thus finishing all my high school math classes. Next year, I will get to take AP Calculus and receive college credit. Fast Track isn't particularly easy or hard. I would say I like Algebra. I'm just afraid of missing a day, because of all the material I would miss. I feel like the teacher teaches to where I understand it, but many times she doesn't teach something that's on the homework. This leads to me not finishing my homework most of the time.
My teacher does accept questions and help students, though, I've gone early and receive help from her on an assignment. She even answers questions before we grade our homework, to make sure we understood it. I'm nor exactly excited to take AP Calculus, but I am excited of receiving high school credit and getting ahead. I hope to pass the class and no fall behind. Me and my classmates help each other out, though, so I think I'll be fine.
I did have some troubles with the first three weeks of school. Because of Fast Track, I has some mistakes in my scheduling. It took up two periods. It was messed up, because I had two classes for my fourth period, and I was being counted absent for the other. It was also an important class, so I went to the office to fix it, and they kept telling me to come back another day. I finally got to tell them the problem, and soon my schedule changed, but guess what? It was worse than before. At this point, I has two sixth periods and no fifth period. I went to the office again, and they told the counselor. They told me to come back the next week if it wasn't fixed, it wasn't.
Finally, I got to talk t o the counselor herself, and I got it fixed. In the process, I had to give up an elective. In the end though, I got to get the two important classes. The elective was semi-important, but I can take it next year. It all got sorted out. I continue in my math class today, and I enjoy it so far. I hope Pre- AP Calculus isn't so difficult to where I'll be shedding tears. I'm joking, but I do love math. Perhaps I'll study for a math job when I graduate. I would actually enjoy it. I've been thinking maybe a math teacher, but then again that may change.
