Recently I started reading a classic book called The Alchemist. The Alchemist is an originally Portuguese book by author Paulo Coelho. The Alchemist has won a Guinness World Record for most translated book by a living author published in 80 languages. Coelho was a rebellious teenager and had mental issues, evidence that suggests this is that he was admitted to a mental asylum 3 times by his parents. Coelho isn’t afraid to speak his mind and fight for what he believes. He wrote lyrics for Brazilian musicians that protested the military’s rule. This led to him being jailed 3 times for political activism and subjected to torture. The Alchemist was written in two weeks and it wasn’t on the first try, but Paulo was determined. The Alchemist has sold 65 million copies and been on The New York Times bestseller list for more than 315 weeks.

The book shows journey of an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago. Santiago has a recurring dream and decides to get it translated by a gypsy woman. The gypsy tells him his dream is a prophecy telling him that he will find a treasure at the Egyptian pyramids. "Along the way he meets a gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his chest." says the book description.
